project overview
Take a Seat is an ongoing series of public furniture installations, begun in 2007 by artist, Jason Eppink, aimed at increasing the availability of seating options in New York City subway stations by relocating perfectly functional chairs slated for disposal.
Add a Seat continues this effort and addresses challenges identified in the first iteration of the project.
The process will consist of a series of prototypes and evaluations and the production of the final seat with five original designs by street artists and guerrilla designers. All designs, plans, and test data will be open-sourced and delivered in a report to MTA New York City Transit.
Patrons have the opportunity to dedicate seats, buy prints of original designs, design a seat for installation, or own a seat.
The Chapters for Add a Seat consist of:
Chapter 1: Prototype 1
Chapter 2: Installation/Evaluation
Chapter 3: Prototype 2
Chapter 4: Installation/Evaluation
Chapter 5: Production
Chapter 6: Installation/Evaluation
Chapter 7: Letter to MTA
